About Bubble and Squeak

The Bubble and Squeak Soapery is the result of over 20 years of making handmade, all-natural soaps and also, room sprays free of ingredients that are both hard to pronounce and possibly hazardous to our health. I made soap originally for my husband and daughter, who reacted to the chemicals in commercial soaps, and then for the guests in the B&B we ran on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.

Many experiments with various oils, butters, essential oils and botanical ingredients gradually brought me – through successes and some epic failures - to what you see today.

My husband built me a lovely studio as a creative space, and thus the idea of turning the production of soaps and other products into a business, began to take shape. We are lucky enough to live in the Southern Gulf Islands on Canada’s beautiful West coast where the climate allows us to grow the organic botanicals used in the soaps.

The soaps are chemical free, with gentle, essential oil fragrances. A few of the soaps contain tallow, an amazingly gentle ingredient, with many skin benefits. I also have purely vegetarian products.

New soaps are being added on a regular basis.

Windrift sprays are free from harmful chemicals and digest odours rather than just cover them up.  Those for use around animals contain only canine friendly essential oils or no scent at all for use around cat litter boxes.

I am a professional member of both the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetics Guild (U.S.A.) and the Bath and Body Guild of Canada. I am passionate about the quality and sustainability of my creations and the reduction of the Soapery’s carbon footprint wherever possible. The soap packaging is made from recyclable paper materials. Whenever possible I purchase ingredients from small, sustainable cooperatives. I’m so happy to use Baraka Shea Butter and Coconut Oil in the soaps. The purchases through Baraka provide women in Ghana with an income and an education for their children.

No animal testing is EVER used (our resident fur babies would have a lot to say about that!). Our lab rats are the two-legged variety, also known as family, friends, colleagues and neighbours!
